Amniocentesis

Fetal and Neonatal Alloimmune Thrombocytopenia (NAIT or FNAIT), occurs in approximately 1:1000 to 1:10,000 births.

This condition results from the presence of maternal antibodies against paternal platelet antigen (Human Placental Antigen, HPA-1a).

Ultrasound-guided amniocenteses are offered at The Fetal Institute for genetic, infectious, and other purposes. Amniocenteses are performed in standard cases, as well as in more tasking circumstances, including patients with multiple gestations, oligohydramnios, and acoustically challenging conditions.
