Amnioinfusion

Fetal and Neonatal Alloimmune Thrombocytopenia (NAIT or FNAIT), occurs in approximately 1:1000 to 1:10,000 births.

This condition results from the presence of maternal antibodies against paternal platelet antigen (Human Placental Antigen, HPA-1a).

Amnioinfusion may be offered at The Fetal Institute for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. Amnioinfusion for diagnostic purposes allows improved visualization of the pregnancy in patients with oligohydramnios. Serial therapeutic amnioinfusions for patients at risk for pulmonary hypoplasia are also available at The Fetal Institute.
