Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS)

Fetal and Neonatal Alloimmune Thrombocytopenia (NAIT or FNAIT), occurs in approximately 1:1000 to 1:10,000 births.

This condition results from the presence of maternal antibodies against paternal platelet antigen (Human Placental Antigen, HPA-1a).

Transabdominal and transvaginal CVS are available at The Fetal Institute. Special techniques are used by our physicians to guarantee to obtain the best quality sample in the safest way. Although most procedures are done in the first trimester, CVS is also offered in more advanced gestational ages when necessary.
