Fetal Cystoscopy

Fetal and Neonatal Alloimmune Thrombocytopenia (NAIT or FNAIT), occurs in approximately 1:1000 to 1:10,000 births.

This condition results from the presence of maternal antibodies against paternal platelet antigen (Human Placental Antigen, HPA-1a).

Endoscopic assessment of the fetal bladder, fetal cystoscopy, was first described by Quintero and collaborators. Fetal cystoscopy may aid in the differential diagnosis of fetuses with lower urinary tract obstruction. The procedure is done at the Hospital, in the main operating room.
