This NPR story focused on the sometimes-insurmountable challenges of working with health insurance plans and out-of-network providers during an emergency.

In Ms. Walsh’s exceedingly rare case of twin-twin transfusion, we were able to perform a first-of-its-kind intrauterine procedure on her twins, which saved both lives.

Our highly specialized practice sees patients from across the U.S. and internationally. It would be impractical to join all health plans. If any patient is unable to pay in full for a procedure, we offer them CareCredit or an alternative payment plan on a case-by-case basis. CareCredit typically approves patients in less than an hour.

Contrary to the statement in the NPR report, where once “… a patient pays upfront, there’s little incentive for providers and insurers to negotiate a fair payment or even cooperate to help patients get reimbursement…”, our staff worked countless hours to secure the best possible reimbursement from her insurance company.

We wish the Walsh family all the best.
