In February of this year, families, friends, and medical professionals gathered for the 2026 Fetal Institute Reunion. It was a day dedicated not to medical charts or appointments, but to human connection, shared memories, and the remarkable strength of this community.

“There is a unique and profound beauty in seeing our families come together,” shared Dr. Eftichia Kontopoulos.

The specialists at The Fetal Institute often meet families during some of the most uncertain and frightening moments of their lives. The early days of these journeys are frequently marked by difficult decisions and anxious waiting, making the opportunity to reconnect years later a deeply moving experience for the medical team.

“To stand together now and watch the children we first met before they even took their first breath, whether they are running through the grass or smiling at us through a screen, is a deeply humbling experience,” said Dr. Ruben Quintero. “It is the greatest reminder of why we do this work.”

The event is much more than a reunion; it is a space for connection, remembrance, and hope. The team recognizes that every family’s journey is unique.

“For some, this day is about celebrating milestones and watching children thrive,” said Dr. Kontopoulos. “For others, it is a time of gentle remembrance, honoring the babies who will always hold a permanent and cherished place in our hearts.”

Regardless of each family’s path, the doctors emphasized that every reunion attendee helps make this community so special, a place where families can support one another, honor their shared experiences, and find comfort together.

As the team reflects on this year’s gathering, the overwhelming feeling is gratitude.

“We are deeply grateful to each family for allowing us to be part of your story and for trusting us during some of the most important moments of your lives,” said Dr. Quintero. “Thank you to everyone who joined us this year, for celebrating with us, and for continuing to inspire hope for so many others.”
